Diy Plumbing Tips}

Submitted by: Christine Dunbar

When you’re trying to save money around the house it is often beneficial to tackle some to the projects that come up yourself. Here is some information to help you with doing your own plumbing repairs.

Guide #1: Buying the right supplies.

You want to make sure that you are taking on your next plumbing job with the right supplies. The best way to do this is to go in and evaluate the situation at hand. If you are going to be working on a sink then you want to measure the piping that is in place, to make sure you select the right pieces.

Guide #2: Taking apart the pipe the correct way.

By the time you get to this section you should be ready to tackle the sink you have your right tools and the correct piping for the job. Now getting back to our sink the first thing you want to do is make sure you shut the water valve off so that when you go to loosen the pipe you dont have a flood on your hands. Next take a bucket and place it under the pipe you are going to be removing. Now you are ready to unscrew the pipe once you have taken the old pipe out you need to evaluate the pipes still in place to make sure that something is not clogged in the other piping sections that would prevent correct flow.

Guide #3: Placing the new pipe fitting back in place.

Once you have completed the check for any other debris in the pipe joints, you are now ready for placing the new pipe back in place. To do this you want to take your glue of choice and gentle place a layer on the new pipe this will help in sealing the pipe in place. Next you want to gently place the pipe back in place where it needs to go. After you have completed these steps check to make sure you have reattached any other sections you have removed. Now you are ready to turn the water valve back on. After you have turned the water valve on you want to check for any leaks that are occurring around your new piping. If you dont notice any leaks you are now ready to turn the sink on and see if the flow makes it into the sink. If this is successful I would next encourage you to try a pressure test on the pipe.

Guide #4: Pressure Testing the Pipe Fitting.

To do a pressure test on your new pipe you want to turn the water on really fast then shut it off really fast. What this does is create a sudden increase in pressure and a decrease rapidly letting you see that the pipes will hold together.

Guide #5: The Clean Up.

Congrats you have now changed your first pipe; you can go out and brag to others that you have completed this mission. But before doing that put all the tools away and clean up any water that has spilled during the replacement. Lastly make sure you Wash your Hands…
